Refurbished
The Dutch government collaborates with businesses, local government bodies, academic institutions, and other authorities to build a circular economy - one where waste is minimized and raw materials are reused continuously. The National Circular Economy Programme outlines the necessary steps to achieve a fully circular economy by 2050.

Our Contributions to Sustainability
Nedal Aluminium BV is committed to sustainability by using 95% recycled aluminium in the production of lighting columns. This reduces the need for virgin raw materials and helps lower CO₂ emissions. Additionally, we focus on the reuse, repair, and refurbishment of existing lighting columns. By restoring and reusing decommissioned columns, we extend their lifespan and reduce waste. This is a significant step toward a circular economy where materials are continuously reused.
The R-Ladder: Our Guiding Principle
Nedal follows the R-Ladder as a framework for its sustainability strategy. This ladder includes value-preserving strategies for the circular economy, such as Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle, along with six others:
- Refuse: Avoid non-sustainable materials.
- Reduce: Minimize the use of raw materials.
- Reuse: Reuse products in their original form.
- Repair: Fix broken products.
- Refurbish: Renew used products.
- Remanufacture: Rebuild products by replacing parts.
- Repurpose: Reuse products for a different purpose.
- Recycle: Process materials for reuse.
- Recover: Recover energy from products.

Our Focus
At Nedal, we concentrate on the strategies Reuse, Repair, Refurbish, and Recycle for our aluminium lighting columns. Instead of melting down decommissioned columns for recycling, we choose to reuse, repair, and refurbish them. This approach significantly extends their lifespan and contributes to a circular economy. By doing so, we reduce waste and preserve valuable resources.
Mastenbank: Platform for Circular Lighting Columns
Nedal is a partner of Mastenbank, a national online platform that connects supply and demand for circular lighting columns. Councils and contractors can view, offer, and reserve circular columns through this platform. This initiative fully supports the goals of a circular economy as outlined in the National Circular Economy Programme. Mastenbank contributes to waste reduction and the preservation of valuable raw materials by facilitating the reuse of lighting columns.
